ABOUT

Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and more impactful for businesses, policymakers, and operational planners alike.

Being able to quantify the likelihood of such events — before they happen — is increasingly critical for informed decision-making. This webinar introduces WEFEX (Weather & Seasonal Forecast Extremes), an interactive tool jointly developed by Inside Climate Service (ICS) and the World Energy & Meteorology Council (WEMC) to estimate the probability of extreme weather events over the European region by combining AI-based weather forecasts with seasonal outlooks and historical climate benchmarks.

Rather than displaying raw meteorological values, WEFEX shows the probability that conditions will exceed critical historical thresholds — so users always have a clear, location-specific understanding of what "extreme" means for their context.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This webinar is aimed at professionals and organisations for whom extreme weather events translate directly into operational disruption or financial exposure, including those working in energy, agriculture and water management, insurance and finance, and infrastructure and government.

Join us on Tuesday, 23 June for a one-hour session where we will walk you through what WEFEX is, how it works, and how it can support your organisation in anticipating and responding to weather-related risks.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

By attending this webinar, participants will:

  • Understand what WEFEX is, the forecasting methodology behind it, and how it was developed
  • Learn how the tool combines short-range AI-driven forecasts and six-month seasonal outlooks to deliver daily extreme weather probability estimates
  • Discover how WEFEX benchmarks forecasts against ERA5 historical percentiles to provide consistent, location-specific risk quantification
  • Explore the tool's key features, including multi-variable tracking, flexible spatial aggregation, and intuitive visualisations
  • Identify how WEFEX can be applied within their own sector and operational context — from energy and agriculture to infrastructure and risk management
